About Seda Yildiz

I am a ‘curator with an artistic practice’ with a background in art practice, design (communication and design, social design) and literature. My interdisciplinary practice spans curating, publishing, writing and editing.

My socially engaged art practice is engaged around collaborative practices, self-organisation strategies, artists’ archives, self-historication, and site and context-specific curatorial projects that are particularly realised in public space. My current PhD artistic research project “Curating as echoing: Disclosing Collaborative Socially Engaged Art Practice” is an experiment to see if there might be a way to present, mediate and circulate collaborative socially engaged art projects by staying close to the practice itself.

I did not grow up in an environment where art was part of my everyday surroundings. As the first person in my family to receive higher education, my practice is motivated by thinking and acting on the relationship between art and politics; making art accessible to a wider public. Building long-lasting relations and friendship are central values in my practice. These relations can take the form of, for example, a roller disco weekend, a pop-up choir performance, a podcast, a multilingual library public campaign, or a multivocal audio-walk.

Since 2019, I have been working with Škart artist collective (Belgrade), and since 2022 with Oda Projesi artist collective (Istanbul). I’m the editor and one of the co-authors of the book (2022, Onomatopee)”, capturing the collective’s artistic explorations that are characterised by self-organisation.

Recent exhibitions, public programs, podcasts, and publishing projects include Walking Archive: A Practice of Neighbouring (Audio walk + Picnic—Galata neighbourhood, Istanbul, 2025), SOFT Critique (Exhibition & Publication—ŠKUC, Ljubljana, 2023), What Knows What, What is What? (Public program—Salt, Istanbul, 2023), Well Beings in Times of Climate Anxiety (Public program—Museum of Art and Design Hamburg, 2023), Radio Otherwise (Podcast—Manifesta 14, Prishtina, 2022), Unfixed Place, Ambiguous Time (Performative exhibition— Prishtina, 2022), Open Library (Community project—Municipal Library of Tavros, Athens, 2021), Memory of Kundura: The World Within a Factory (Archive exhibition— Beykoz Kundura, Istanbul, 2021).
