Mario Garofalo, University of Padua Mario Garofalo is a PhD candidate at the University of Padua, Italy, where his research focuses on climate movements in Italy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Calabria and a master’s degree in Sociology and Social Research from the University of Trento. Mario’s academic interests lie at the intersection of social movements studies, environmental sociology and sociology of culture.

Beyond the climate change countermovement: Climate obstructionist reactionary politics
Kjell Vowles, University 91̽»¨

Kjell Vowles is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Sociology and Work 91̽»¨ at the University 91̽»¨. His research focuses on questions related to why society has failed to achieve the necessary climate transition. He has taken a particular interest in issues such as climate denial, nationalism, and resistance to climate policy. He also has a background as a journalist, including serving as editor for the now-defunct Klimatmagasinet Effekt.

Emotions and temporality in postapocalyptic environmentalism
Karl Malmqvist & Ã…sa Wettergren, University 91̽»¨

Ã…sa Wettergren is Professor in Sociology at the Department of Sociology and Work 91̽»¨, University 91̽»¨. Wettergren is an internationally recognized scholar in the Sociology of Emotions. Since 2012 her empirical research has concentrated on the fields of Emotions in the environmental/climate movement, and of Law and Emotions.

Karl Malmqvist is a Lecturer in Sociology at the University 91̽»¨, specializing in the sociology of emotions. His research currently focuses on collective emotions and temporalities in regional 'green-green' conflicts as well as on emotion work in postapocalyptic environmental movements.

Donatella della Porta is Full Professor of Sociology and Dean of the Faculty of Political and Social 91̽»¨s at the Scuola Normale Superiore. directs COSMOS - Center on Social Movement Studies actually at the Scuola Normale Superiore, the DEMOS project (Democracy in Europe and the Mobilisation of the Society) founded by the European Commission. She is a world-leadning social movement scholar, also known for research in the areas of corruption, political violence, police and policies of public order.

A new movement from the ashes of the old: Global civil society, social movements, and the conjuncture of border struggles
Ludvig Sunnemark, University of Oslo

Ludvig Sunnemark works as a doctoral student in sociology at the University of Oslo. His doctoral thesis theorizes the Climate Justice, Black Lives Matter, and Palestine Solidarity movements in relation to the concept of global civil society, using a neo-Gramscian approach. Apart from social movements, his research interests include post-colonialism, cultural studies, Marxism, and the history and politics of higher education.
