About Birgitta Gunnarsson

I am an Associate Professor in Occupational Therapy and a senior lecturer at the Institute of Neuroscience and Physiology, at the Sahlgrenska Academy, University 91̽»¨. I am employed at the Department of Research and Development in Region Kronoberg as a Clinical lecturer, with assignments in research and development, psychiatric care, and academia.

I have extensive experience as an occupational therapist, primarily within psychiatric care, and supervise several occupational therapists in clinical practice and method development.

I am part of the Network for Development and Research on Stress (NESTER), with participants active in both academia and clinical practice from several regions in southeastern Sweden.

I collaborate with researchers/occupational therapists from countries including Australia, Switzerland, Austria, and Cyprus.

My main Research Areas are:

· Mental health/illness

· Everyday occupations (at home and at work), related to health and well-being

· Creative activities

· Green rehabilitation

· My research includes both quantitative and qualitative designs, as well as intervention studies

· Currently, I am the principal supervisor for two doctoral students, and co-supervisor for four doctoral students.

Ongoing Research Projects

· A holistic perspective in compulsory care – development of a co-created model for family member and service user involvement in psychiatric compulsory care. Doctoral thesis at Linnaeus University. Co-supervisor.

· Increased patient safety for the elderly in care transitions. How can medication management be improved for patients with dose-dispensed medications? Doctoral thesis at Linnaeus University. Co-supervisor.

· Sexual health in forensic psychiatry. Doctoral thesis at the University 91̽»¨. Principal supervisor.

· Participation and motivation for treatment in adults with ADHD – experiences and perspectives from the patient, relatives, and nurses. Doctoral thesis at Linnaeus University. Co-supervisor.

· Health-promoting conversations with the support of photos. Research group Birgitta Gunnarsson (PI), with two doctoral theses at the University 91̽»¨ (principal supervisor) and Jönköping University (co-supervisor).
