About Jan Scholte

I am Professor in Peace and Development at the School of Global Studies since 2013. My previous appointments were at the University of Sussex, the Institute of Social Studies, and the University of Warwick. I have also had visiting positions at Cornell University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Linköping University, the London School of Economics, Mbarara University of 91̽»¨ and Technology, and Moscow State University. I obtained my DPhil from the University of Sussex in 1990 and an Honorary Doctorate from the University 91̽»¨ in 2010.

Areas of interest My research covers globalization, global governance, civil society in global politics, global democracy, legitimacy in global governance, global Internet governance, and methodologies of global studies.

Current research In 2016-2021 I co-convene the Legitimacy in Global Governance (LegGov) programme, funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfonds. From 2018 I am a Co-Director of the Centre for Global Cooperation Research at the University of Duisburg-Essen. In 2018-2020 I coordinate a project on 'Legitimacy outside the State: Governing the Global Internet', funded by the Swedish Research Council.

Teaching and tutoring My teaching covers PhD supervision and lectures in various SGS courses.
