About Johan Stennek

Johan Stennek is Professor of Economics at Gothenburg University. His area of interest is applied microeconomics. His research has been published in well renowned international journals including the Journal of the European Economic Association and the Journal of Public Economics. Currently his research is focused on (i) labor unions, (ii) international trade in bilateral oligopoly and (iii) mixed oligopoly.

Johan is teaching masters and Ph.D. courses in microeconomics, industrial economics and game theory. He is also coordinating the masters program in economics.

Johan has previously held positions at the Institute for International Economic Studies at Stockholm University, Tilburg University in the Netherlands and the IUI (today IFN) in Stockholm. In 2002, he was awarded the International Inter-University Franqui Chair in Belgium. During 2008 he was a visitor at Stockholm School of Economics.

Johan has coordinated several research projects including “Competition Policy in International Markets” financed by the European Commission with participation of both senior and junior researchers from several European countries. He has served as associate editor of International Journal of Industrial Organization and in the research network CEPR.

Johan Stennek is an economic expert judge in competition policy cases at the Patents and Market Court. He has been a member of the Swedish Medical Benefits Board and the Swedish Competition Authority’s Council for Competition Research. Johan Stennek has acted as an economic expert to the European Commission, Swedish public authorities and major European companies concerning competition policy and regulatory issues.
