About Jonas Lindbäck

Ph.D. in child and youth studies. My main research interests are youth, urban segregation, identity and education. In my doctoral thesis I did an ethnographic study of urban youth from immigrant dense and disadvantaged neighbourhoods with a focus on their relationship to schooling and education. The background is the increased school segregation and differences in results between schools in Sweden over the last three decades, whose negative effect is most apparent in relationship to schools in the disadvantaged neighbourhoods in the urban periphery. In my dissertation I studied how the youth themselves described their everyday life in school, the importance and meaning the ascribed their local school, and how they positioned themselves in relation to education as well as their place and future prospects.
