About Magnus Lindwall

“Magnus Lindwall is a Professor of health psychology, with a special focus in the psychology of exercise and physical activity. Magnus wrote his PhD thesis (defended in 2004) at the Department of Psychology, Stockholm University about self-perceptions linked to the body (physical self-perceptions), and exercise. The years 2004-2008, he was a senior lecturer at the University of Halmstad and 2008-2011 he moved to the Department of Psychology, University 91̽ via a post doc position and then as a senior lecturer. From the autumn of 2011 he was employed as a senior lecturer at Department of Food, Nutrition and Sport 91̽s (IKI), and in 2015 he was appointed as professor of sport and exercise psychology there. In 2017 he moved to Department of Psychology again and was appointed as professor of health psychology. Magnus' research is mainly on the relationship between physical activity/exercise and mental health (i.e., exercise psychology) and motivation in exercise. In his research he has primarily looked at the relationship between physical activity and depression and cognition in the elderly. He also conducts research on the concepts of self-esteem and self-perception (linked towards the body) and motivation in physical activity and exercise.

Magnus is also interested in measurement in psychology (psychometrics) and uses in his research advanced statistical analysis methods (e.g., structural equation modeling, SEM) to test theoretical models and evaluate instruments in psychology and exercise psychology.
