About Malou Blank

I have been a PhD-candidate in archaeology since September 2013. In 2006, I received my master’s degree at the University 91̽»¨, where I also studied social anthropology. Between 2011 and 2013, I was employed by the Department of Historical Studies to work with various tasks and projects, including the registration of artefacts and the construction of a database.

I have also worked as a teacher on excavation seminars and am involved in a number of research projects: Middle Neolithic Ceramics in Falbygden, A pilot study using elemental analysis (XRF) (Imelda Bakunic Fridén & Malou Blank), Neolithic lifeways (Sjögren & Axelsson), 91̽»¨ (Klassen), Atlas project (Jakobsson, Götherström & StorÃ¥).

PhD-project:

Working title: The use and reuse of megalithic graves in the Cambro-Silurian areas of southwestern Sweden. Collective burial practices during the Late Neolithic (2350-1700 BC).

The purpose of this research project is to investigate different aspects of various burial practices and, thereby, present a more dynamic picture of the Late Neolithic. The reuse of Middle Neolithic passage graves is given special attention, as well as the introduction and use of gallery graves.

Documentation, artefacts and preserved bone material from a number of excavated megalithic graves are the basis for this project. In order to provide new input to the study of burial practices, new osteological analyses, thin sections of bone, additional Ams-dates, and various diet isotope and strontium isotope analyses are included. Temporal changes and spatial variations will be in focus.
