YLVA ULFSDOTTER ERIKSSON, Professor of Sociology

Ulfsdotter Eriksson was appointed associate professor (docent) in 2014 and PhD of sociology 2006. The doctoral thesis is entitled (summary and abstract in English).

Research

Perceptions of occupations and occupational prestige – mechanisms of the polarisation of the occupational structure (2018-2022). The project is conducted within the research program (2017-2022) and focus on occupational prestige and how changes in the job-wage structure may interact with the occupational status hierarchy whether this has changed over time. The project is partly a replication of a previous study on Perceptions of occupational prestige. The research program is led by Professor Tomas Berglund and financed by Forte. The research project on occupational prestige is led by Ulfsdotter Eriksson.

Visualising and measuring the role of Industrial Relations in Addressing Gender Equality (VIRAGE) (2020-2022). Funded by the European Commission (DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion). The project is led by the research institutes CEPS (Brussels).

Previous research projects

Perceptions on occupational prestige (2002-2006) (thesis) (Riksbankens Jubileumsfond)

Experiencing occupational prestige (2006-2010). The project studied how employees in so-called low status jobs experienced and perceived their own occupation in relation to status evaluations, respect and recognition, knowledge and competences and occupational identity. (Vetenskapsrådet, The Swedish Research Council).

Descriptions of occupations for career guidance – a matter of the free choice of the individual or the differentiation of the labour force?(2010-2014. Forte). The project studied occupational descriptions produced by the Swedish Public Employment Service (Arbetsförmedlingen), and how occupational descriptions are structured with regard to gender, social class etc.

Global Standards for HRM (2012-2016). I followed the international standardization organization ISO processes in developing global standards for HRM.

Enhancing the Effectiveness of Social Dialogue Articulation in Europe (EESDA) (2018-2019). Funded by the European Commission (DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion). The project is led by the research institutes CEPS (Brussels) and CELSI (Bratislava).

Individual wage setting from policy to practice (2016-2019) The project studies how assessments of qualifications, competencies and performance are done in five cases – from policy to practice: how policies and criteria are designed, perceived, interpreted and practiced by HR, managers, union representatives and employees. The aim is to describe interpretation and valuation processes in local wage setting, to identify and understand actors' various arguments, and to explain variations that affect the design and implementation, and whether the process is perceived as objective, consistent and transparent. The project is led by Professor Bengt Larsson and financed by The Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet).

Teaching and tutoring Teaching primarily at the HRM-programs and on different sociological subjects: working life studies, organizational theory, social psychology, sociological theories and methods. Tutoring and supervising bachelor and master thesis.
