The amateur photographers, father and son, Axel and Arne Svensson, have left behind an archive consisting of 7,500 negatives from 1898 to 1960. With the digitized negatives as a starting point, this exhibition showcases 550 images that provide insight into both the transformation of the city and the development of amateur photography. Additionally, the exhibition highlights how the image archive enables the presentation and understanding of photographs as aesthetic images in their own right, as cultural-historical traces, or as historical source material.

The exhibition is curated by Niclas Östlind, Mats Jönsson, and Karl-Magnus Johansson.

It is part of the project "Tidernas Göteborg" (Gothenburg through the Ages), which is a collaboration between Rise - Research institute of Sweden, GPS400: Center for Collaborative Visual Research at the University 91̽»¨, HDK-Valand at University 91̽»¨, and the Swedish National Archives. The project is funded by the Hasselblad Foundation.
