About the exhibition
In this exhibition, three craft specialisations from HDK-Valand – ceramic art, textile art, and jewellery art – come together in a joint exhibition titled In Between.
The exhibition explores the space that arises when different materials, techniques, and artistic expressions converge. As individual artists working together, we create not only a collection of separate works but also something else. Our various processes, material choices, and artistic expressions intersect, overlap, and resonate with one another. In the in-between space, a fourth room is created that none of us can fully control.
This fourth room is the invisible, the unpredictable, and what cannot be predetermined or entirely governed by any single individual. It is the unexpected connections that arise between the works, the subtle tensions and dialogues that were not planned but still take place. It may be a shared rhythm between forms, an unexpected harmony between materials, or a contrast that enhances both sides.
Here, we are challenged to see our own work in new ways, to interpret it through someone else's perspective, and to allow our materials and expressions to be influenced by what happens around us. Thus, the fourth room is not something we consciously create, but rather something that emerges between us – a space where our separate worlds intertwine and give rise to something we could not have created alone.
