Special issue about children and childhood in the Nordics

The Nordic Gender Fund contributes to the project "The spurious case of the gender-less child in Barn: Workshop-based synergies for boosting gender research in Nordic Childhood Studies".

A review of 40 years of publication of the Nordic journal Barn - forskning om barn og barndom i Norden shows that studies on gender and children are rare, especially on the youngest children.

The Nordic Gender Fund is contributing funding for a special issue of the journal, which aims to strengthen the development of new research on gender and childhood in the Nordic region.

The special issue will also address the issue of the lack of gender studies in the journal's publication, with the aim of exploring how norms, beliefs and structures affect how we think about gender, gender equality and childhood in the Nordic countries.

The special issue will establish a Nordic platform for interdisciplinary dialogues on gender research in Nordic childhood studies, and foster new collaborations between researchers across disciplinary and national borders.
