Pathways to world-class: A qualitative case study of Swedish high-performing athletes.

The research project ‘Pathways to world-class’ aims to establish scientific knowledge on how senior elite athletes become world-class performers. A qualitative case study with current and former Swedish high-performing athletes will be conducted to identify critical career turning points and personal and contextual support factors that facilitate development of excellence in sport. Women and men athletes from team and individual sports, as well as parasport athletes will be involved. The findings of the study will result in recommendations to support coaches, stakeholders and national governing bodies to align actions, and create efficient and sustainable support conditions for Swedish athletes.
