Our teaching approach is based on a collaborative model in which teachers work in teams both within the department and between disciplines. The different elements of the curriculum rely on a variety of teaching formats, including individual and group instruction, field trips, and seminars. Our permanent faculty includes nationally and internationally active artists, critics, researchers and curators. The programme provides you with opportunities to participate in exhibitions and international seminars, offering good opportunities for you to build up a network of professional contacts.

In the first year of the programme, the emphasis is on introducing, testing and discussing different artistic and theoretical practices. The purpose is to broaden the field of working forms and ways of thinking available to you, and thereby to support you in your work as an individual artist and as part of a collaborative process. The curriculum also includes courses in Art and Contexts, which give you an orientation in both art history and contemporary art theory.

Year Two focuses on testing your own practice in relation to the society around you. Starting with a specific public context, you’ll work through your own in-depth project. The Art and Contexts courses illuminate and problematise the relationship between art and public space in a contemporary perspective.

In the final year of the programme, you’ll work to formulate a position for your art in relation to the various contemporary art scenes and discourses. The curriculum is designed to support you in developing your thesis project. Year Three also includes the courses Artistic Orientation and Writing as Method and Tool, during which you’ll work on your bachelor’s degree essay, which you’ll complete during the final term. 

NOTE! The programme is conducted in Swedish, except for semesters when exchange students attends. Exchange applicants are not required to submit proof of their proficiency in English. They are however expected to have an adequate level of proficiency in English to effectively engage in studies and express themselves both in writing and verbally. Consequently, supplementary interviews may be conducted as part of the application process for the program.

Applicants who wish to attend the full programme must be proficient in Swedish or another Scandinavian language and be able to demonstrate this through either grades or a Swedish test for higher education. The full programme description and information about how to apply may be found on the Swedish site.
