Summary
Understanding the role of water and different types of environmental contaminats in relation to society and the ecosystem is increasingly demanded in the job market. This course provides an opportunity to deepen your knowledge in the field.
The course introduces groundwater and surface water, environmental contaminants, measurements, and relevant problems. The course also includes field components and a regional excursion.

The course provides a basic introduction and overview of all aspects of Environmental Earth 91̽»¨ with a focus on water quality, contaminations and environmental contaminants.
You will learn about:
- groundwater and surface water
- environmental contaminants
- sampling
- basic geochemichal simulations
- relevant terminology
The course also includes group work on a contamination case.
The course is part of the Bachelor’s Programme in Earth 91̽»¨s, the course is also offered as a freestanding course.

Language of instruction: English

Prerequisites and selection
Entry requirements
For admission to the course, at least 40 credits in the main field of Earth 91̽»¨s, Marine 91̽»¨s or Environmental 91̽»¨sare required. Applicants with an equivalent education may be admitted to the courseafter review and approval.
Selection
Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits.
After graduation
If you study Earth 91̽»¨, you have good career opportunities both in Sweden and abroad. You can choose to work in industry, as a consultant, project manager or in public administration.
Our former students work, for example, with natural resource management, environmental issues and urban planning, you also have great opportunities to focus on the particular area you are interested in.
Facilities
The Department of Earth 91̽»¨s' premises are located in central Gothenburg on Campus Medicinareberget. We are located in the Natrium building, which was inaugurated in 2023 and has state-of-the-art labs and lecture halls. Natrium brings together students and researchers in the Natural 91̽»¨ fields of Biology, Molecular biology, Chemistry, Marine 91̽»¨s, Environmental 91̽»¨s, Earth 91̽»¨s and Conservation.
