Summary

The Hydrology and hydrogeology course provides basic views on all aspects of hydrology with a main focus on groundwater and the importance of water for the environment and society.

About

The aim of the course is to provide you with knowledge of basic hydrology and hydrogeology, about applications and relevant methods in hydrology and hydrogeology and about the importance of water resources in the hydrogeological cycle and its significance for humans and ecosystems. 

You will learn about: 

  • water resources
  • relevant terminology
  • key theoretical concepts in hydrology and hydrogeology
  • hydrological survey methods
  • hydrological and hydrogeological problems


The course also includes calculations and the use of relevant methods in to analyse and solve hydrological and hydrogeological problems. 

The course is part of the Bachelor’s Programme in Earth 91̽»¨s, the course is also offered as a freestanding course.

Prerequisites and selection

Entry requirements

For admission to the course, at least 45 credits in the main field of Earth 91̽»¨s, Geography, Environmental 91̽»¨ or Marine 91̽»¨ is required. In addition, approved knowledge in Earth 91̽»¨s is required, the course GV1410 Geosciences, Basic Level Course, 30 credits, or equivalent. Applicants with equivalent education can, after review and approval, be given access to the course.

Selection

Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits.

After graduation

If you study Earth 91̽»¨, you have good career opportunities both in Sweden and abroad. You can choose to work in industry, as a consultant, project manager or in public administration.

Our former students work, for example, with natural resource management, environmental issues and urban planning, you also have great opportunities to focus on the particular area you are interested in.


Facilities

The Department of Earth 91̽»¨s' premises are located in central Gothenburg on Campus Medicinareberget. We are located in the Natrium building, which was inaugurated in 2023 and has state-of-the-art labs and lecture halls. Natrium brings together students and researchers in the Natural 91̽»¨ fields of Biology, Molecular biology, Chemistry, Marine 91̽»¨s, Environmental 91̽»¨s, Earth 91̽»¨s and Conservation.
