Summary
The course is divided into two modules, the first of which deals with Literature, visual culture and modernity while the second focuses on Literature and visual culture after 1950.
About
The course focuses on the relationships between fiction and visual culture (for example film, photography, visual arts, ekphrasis) in Latin America from the 19th century to the present day and provides insight into how these cultural expressions have related to central historical stages and debates. The course deals with the role that visual technologies play in how we perceive and shape the world around us and how these expressions are constructed culturally. Through a transnational and transcultural approach, the course offers opportunities for reflection on how aesthetic ideas and technologies are transferred and how they are expressed in different historical and social circumstances.
