Religious Fundamentalism and Violent Extremism

How are certain forms of religious conviction able to motivate violent extremism? Which social and psychological factors underpin religiously motivated acts of violence? The course deals with what has been termed religious fundamentalism and violent extremism as well as its different global expressions.
The course takes its departure in contemporary research on religious fundamentalism and violent extremism. The history and effects of fundamentalism from the 1900s up until the present day provide a background for the various examples brought up during the course.
Prerequisites and selection
Entry requirements
Bachelor'sdegree or University studies equal to a Bachelor'sdegree, including an approved Bachelor thesis of at least 15 credits. Applicants must prove their knowledge of English: English 5/English A from Swedish Upper Secondary School or the equivalent level of an internationally recognized test, for example TOEFL, IELTS.
Selection
Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits.
