About Inger Berndtsson

Research interests Issues that intrigue me and that I work with in my research deal with individuals who have acquired impaired vision or blindness and their ability to cope with this altered situation in life. This includes learning as a central component in order once again to have the capacity to deal with both the joys and vicissitudes of daily life. In this field I make use of a phenomenological hermeneutic lifeworld approach. The goal is ultimately to contribute to the development of theory in this field.

I am also interested in the concept of participation in relation to processes of learning and generally how individuals with functional impairments can and are allowed to participate in school and in society. Within the life-world approach, I work with methodological issues regarding how it is possible to approach and try to imagine another person’s perspectives and life-world, and corporeal and intersubjective aspects of the life-world concept.

Teaching interests I have a special interest in issues of research methodology, primarily in the area of qualitative research. In the special education programme I am responsible for and teach the research-oriented courses. Moreover, I am interested in special education questions in schools and in society and the meaning of a special education approach. I supervise undergraduate theses and doctoral dissertations related to the research field of special education.
