About Linda Åhlström

Linda Ahlstrom possesses extensive and versatile expertise in both teaching and research, particularly in the field of nursing science. She has a long experience as a senior lecturer and associate professor at the Department of Health and Care 91Ě˝»¨s at Sahlgrenska Academy, University 91Ě˝»¨, where she teaches in the nursing program, radiography program, specialist education programs, and for nurses pursuing Swedish licensure. Linda supervises students at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels and has also been the program director for the nursing program. She is also an associate professor in health care science. Her teaching focuses on learning, leadership, and organization, as well as Quality improvement. Additionally, she covers work conditions, occupational health, and work environment, and participates in courses on scientific theory and method at both undergraduate and advanced levels, in both quantitative and qualitative research methods.

Linda also holds a combined position as a Chief Nurse at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Orthopaedic Department, where she works on developing nursing care, focusing on processes and hygiene issues with the goal of patient safety and creating attractive workplaces. She has been the head of the Spine Orthopedics and Tumor Surgery unit and has worked closely with leadership and the education of clinical nursing staff. Her research focuses on patient safety and the relationship with the work environment, leadership, and organization within clinical practice.

In her research, Linda has been involved in several projects, including one that examines how the work environment and recovery among healthcare staff have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The project "Clean Care" addresses the urgent need to minimize healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and reduce the spread of antibiotic-resistant microbes through innovative solutions to break the transmission pathways of microbes through air, contact surfaces, hygiene facilities, equipment, textiles, patients, and staff. This research has contributed to developing and testing various strategies to improve infection prevention work in healthcare. She is also driving projects on the use of medications by elderly people and their independent management after transitioning from hospital to home, as well as the effects and experiences of emergency care from a community healthcare team for people aged 75 and older.

Linda has a strong drive to be the link between Sahlgrenska Academy and the Orthopaedic Clinic at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. She has also been involved in implementing workplace-integrated thesis projects for nursing students, meaning that students' theses now contribute to the development of healthcare.

Linda's educational background includes a Ph.D. in Medicine from Sahlgrenska Academy, University 91Ě˝»¨, and a Master of 91Ě˝»¨ in Advanced Clinical Nursing from La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. She has also completed several higher education pedagogical courses and has experience teaching scientific theory and methods with a focus on statistics. Linda is a registered nurse with specialist training in surgical nursing and intensive care nursing, as well as education in healthcare administration, leadership, and learning.

Network: Active participant in the Active Learning Classroom network, which is for anyone interested in student-centered learning with a focus on active learning and learning environments that promote this. International experiences: Linda has worked as a research nurse at Monash University Accident Research Centre, where her main area of work was "Road Trauma," Real World Crash Investigation. She was part of a multidisciplinary team working together to improve road safety and minimize personal injuries resulting from traffic accidents. Her part of the study consisted of the clinical part and the research part. Before that, she also worked as a research assistant/research nurse at The Alfred Hospital Trauma Unit, Melbourne, Australia.
