About Ulla Li Zweifel

My research has primarily focused on the role of microorganisms in biogeochemical processes in the sea and air. I have since many years also worked with providing science based advice for the management of marine waters, e.g. through work for the Helsinki Commission (HELCOM), the Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the North-East Atlantic (OSPAR), and the UN environment programme (UNEP). At Gothenburg university I am working at the Swedish Institute for the Marine Environment where I am providing assessments, syntheses and decision support for marine management. Environmental policies that I have worked with in depth include the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) and Water Framework Directive (WFD), HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan and OSPAR North-East Atlantic Environment Strategy.
