Co-design of a sustainable national platform for public involvement
Short description
In response to the significant need for public involvement in research, innovation and healthcare improvement, we envision supporting the development of a sustainable Swedish national online platform that fosters the development of partnerships between people with lived experiences (e.g., patients, family carers, survivors, people with disability) and professionals (e.g., researchers, innovators, professionals working in healthcare improvement and governance).
Currently ongoing activities:
• Investigating the needs of relevant interest groups in Sweden
• Reaching out to relevant interest groups
• Examining similar infrastructures
• Collaborating internationally to exchange knowledge on PPI infrastructures
• Applications for funding
Longer description
â–º Investigating the needs of relevant interest groups in Sweden (ongoing)
During the fall of 2024, we organized three workshops and individual meetings to start investigating the need for a national online platform for public involvement. The data analysis is ongoing.
â–º Reaching out to relevant interest groups (ongoing)
We are continuing with individual meetings. If you are interested in our efforts, contact us directly or to learn about involvement opportunities.
â–º Examining similar infrastructures (ongoing)
We have found a plethora of existing online platforms that could potentially serve as a blueprint. We are studying the features and services of some of these platforms in detail, e.g. and .
â–º Collaborating internationally to exchange knowledge on PPI infrastructures (ongoing)
We are establishing international partnerships in order to foster PPI in Sweden and on European level, drawing on learnings from other countries, e.g. Canada, UK, Ireland, Denmark and Netherlands.
â–º Applications for funding (ongoing)
During 2025, the goal is to submit several applications to obtain funding for the project.
Next steps (depending on funding):
â–¼ Co-creation of the PPI platform
â–¼ Development of a prototype
â–¼ Testing of the platform prototype
â–¼ Sustainability of the platform
â–¼ Scaling up to a sustainable national platform
