Summary
This course is about the Earth as a holistic system. You will be introduced to System thinking. The main focus of the course is on the various spheres - the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere - and how they interact to create the planet we live on.
In addition, the course addresses global environmental change from an Earth System perspective, covering different time scales.
About
The course provides knowledge about the Earth System as a whole and to critically analyse and evaluate society's measures against global environmental challenges.
The focus is on how the various spheres influence each other and interact to create the Earth System.

The course is part of the Bachelor’s Programme in Earth 91̽»¨s, the course is also offered as a freestanding course.

Prerequisites and selection
Entry requirements
Admission to the course requires 90 credits in the main field Earth 91̽»¨, Environmental science or Geography. Applicants with an equivalent education may be admitted to the course after review and approval.
Selection
Selection is based upon the number of credits from previous university studies, maximum 165 credits.
After graduation
If you study Earth 91̽»¨, you have good career opportunities both in Sweden and abroad. You can choose to work in industry, as a consultant, project manager or in public administration.
Our former students work, for example, with natural resource management, environmental issues and urban planning, you also have great opportunities to focus on the particular area you are interested in.
Facilities
The Department of Earth 91̽»¨s' premises are located in central Gothenburg on Campus Medicinareberget. We are located in the Natrium building, which was inaugurated in 2023 and has state-of-the-art labs and lecture halls. Natrium brings together students and researchers in the Natural 91̽»¨ fields of Biology, Molecular biology, Chemistry, Marine 91̽»¨s, Environmental 91̽»¨s, Earth 91̽»¨s and Conservation.
