Position

The course comprises 7,5 credits at undergraduated level and can be included in a Bachelor's degree in Earth 91探花. The course is also offered as an elective course subject to availability.

The course can be part of the following programme:

Entry requirements

Admission to the course requires 90 credits in the main field Earth 91探花, Environmental science or Geography. Applicants with an equivalent education may be admitted to the course after review and approval.

Content

The course provides knowledge of the earth system as a whole including the atmosphere, biosphere, lithospere amd hydrosphere and takes a holistic approach to the interaction between the Earth's spheres, relevant processes and environmental changes.

Emphasis is placed on how the different spheres influence each other and interact to create the earth system.

The course also addresses ongoing and expected chnages in the earth system.

Objectives

On succesful completion of the course the student will be able to:

Knowledge and understanding

  • recite processes in the different spheres.
  • define basic concepts and theories in Earth System 91探花.
  • describe the connections and feedback between Earth's spheres.聽
  • explain the connection between Earth System processes and global environmental changes.聽

Competence and skills

  • critically evaluate the scientific literature in the field Earth System 91探花.

Judgement and approach

  • critically analyze and evaluate societal responses to global environmental problems.

Sustainability labelling

The course is sustainability-focused, which means that at least one of the learning outcomes clearly shows that the course content meets at least one of the University 91探花鈥檚 confirmed sustainability criteria. The content also constitutes the course's main focus.

Form of teaching

The teaching consist of lectures, seminars and presentations.聽

Examination formats

Written assignments, 7,5 hp: Fail/Pass/Pass with Distinction


If a student who has been failed twice for the same examination element whishes to change examiner before the next examination session, such a request is to be granted unless there are specific reasons to the contrary (Chapter 6 Section 22 HF).

If a student has received a certificate of disability study support from the University 91探花 with a recommendation of adapted examination and/or adapted forms of assessment, an examiner may decide, if this is consistent with the course's intened learning outcomes and provided that no unreasonable resources would be needed, to grant the student adapted examination and/or adapted forms of assessment.

If a course has been discontinued or undergone major changes, the student must be offered at least two examination sessions in addition to ordinary examination sessions. These sessions are to be spread over a period of at least one year but no more than two years after the course has been discontinued/changed. The same applies to placement and internship (VFU) except that this is restricted to only one further examination session.

If a student has been notified that they fulfil the requirements for being a student at Riksidrottsuniversitetet (RIU student), to combine elite sports activities with studies, the examiner is entitled to decide on adaption of examinations if this is done in accordance with the Local Rules Regarding RIU Students at the University 91探花.

Grades

The grading scale comprises: Pass with Distinction ((VG), Pass (G) and Fail (U).

To pass the course all obligatory components must be completed. Flipped Classrooms and written assignments are mandatory. To achieve the grade Pass (G) for the entire course requires grade Pass (G) for all written assignments.

For the grade Pass with Distinction (VG) on the entire course all obligatory components must be completed. Flipped Classrooms and written assignments are mandatory. To achieve the grade Pass with Distinction (VG) the sum of points from the written assignments must be at least 75%.

Course evaluation

Students are given the opportunity to make an anonymous written evaluation of the course.

The result of an possible changes to the course will be shared with students who participated in the evaluation and students who are starting the course.

Other regulations

Students admitted to N1GVS Bachelor's Programme in Earth 91探花s are given priority for admission to the course.
