About Anders Burman

I am a social anthropologist (PhD 2009) and professor of Human Ecology. Previously, I was a senior lecturer at the Human Ecology Division at Lund University (2011-2017) and a postdoctoral scholar at the Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of California at Berkeley (2009-2011). Since the early 2000s, I have conducted ethnographic research in the Andes, focusing on social movements and activist research, ritual practice, political ontology, environmental conflicts, traditional ecological knowledge, climate change and climate justice, and, more recently, migration.

I currently supervise PhD students in Environmental Social 91̽, Social Anthropology and Peace and Development Research. I teach at undergraduate and graduate levels, primarily within the field of Political Ecology.

At the Universidad Mayor de San Simón in Cochabamba, Bolivia, I'm the co-coordinator of the Doctoral program in the Social 91̽s and the Humanities.

I am currently the PI of two research initiatives, both funded by the Swedish Research Council: one comparative project on Indigenous cosmopolitics and notions of development in Latin America (“Negotiating the Middle Ground: Indigenous Cosmopolitical Brokerage in Latin America”) and one large research consortium on the relation between climate change and migration in three mountain regions ("A New Interdisciplinary Framework for Studying the Relation between Climate Change and Migration").
