About Marina Nistotskaya

I am Professor at the Department of Political 91̽»¨ and researcher at the Quality of Government Institute, University 91̽»¨.

Research

My research focuses on:

  • how public bureaucracies are organized around the world. I am PI of the QoG Expert Survey on bureaucratic structures and bureaucratic behaviour in countries across the world and across ;
  • and of authonomous (Weberian) bureaucracies
  • State capacity and
  • : state capacity and democratization
  • Long-term effects of state capacity on, including , and
  • Effects of New Public Management reforms: and
  • Structural determinants of service quality in nursing homes: and
  • in authocratic regimes
  • African politics: and

I have published on these and related topics in Journal of Public Administration Research and Theory, Governance, Public Administration, the European Journal of Political Research, Environment and Planning C and Journal of East African Studies.

Teaching

I teach BA, MA and PhD-level courses. I am the course coordinater for Quality of Government in Comparative Perspective (MA), Delegation to Executives: Dilemmas and Institutional Solutions (BA) and Advanced Study of the State, its Citizens and its Institutions (PhD).

I am currently supervising three PhD student: Magnus Ã…sblad (main supervisor), Monika de Silva (second supervisor) and Palina Kolvani (second supervisor).

Under my supervision more than 45 students have successfully defended their MA dissertations at the University 91̽»¨. I also supervise theses of BA students.
